The California Department of Aging serves seniors citizens
and adults with disabilities in California. The CDA also administers
programs such as adult day health care, alzheimer's
day care resource centers, brown bag program, health
insurance counseling and advocacy
program, legal assistance for seniors, subsidized employment program
for seniors, elderly support services, multi-purpose senior
centers, in-home services, home-deliver meals, and much more.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
California ombudsmen investigate and resolve complaints made by or
on behalf of residents of California long term care facilities: California's
nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult home care, and other
long term care facilities.

Family Caregiver Respite Program
Relieve Family Caregivers by providing temporary or periodic
services for frail elderly or adults with functional impairments to relieve

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP)
Provides
community education sessions and individualized one-to-one
counseling on Medicare, managed care, and other private health insurance
issues. Assists individuals and families with Medicare problems, Medicare
supplement insurance, managed care, long-term care planning and
other health insurance concerns.
HICAP will help an individual file Medicare or other health insurance
claims, understand his or her coverage and consumer rights,
assist with managed care issues and long-term care planning, and
evaluate
his or her insurance or health care needs.1-800-434-0222
- Alzheimer's
Day Care Resource Centers (ADCRC)
Day care for persons
with Alzheimer's disease (and other related dementia)
who are often unable to be served by other programs. The centers provide respite as
well as training and support for families and professional caregivers.

of the criminal justice programs under the California Attorney
General Office. The Bureau
investigate health care fraud and works to protect patients form nursing
home abuse and neglect. Contact the Bureau if you suspect Medi-Cal fraud
or elder abuse or to make a formal complaint.

the California Department of Health Services in cooperation with private
insurance companies providing CA residents with affordable long
term care insurance.
The policies have a special asset protection
feature that assures California residents will not have to spend down
all assets on long term care and protects assets from Medi-Cal estate
